Ian Coutts
Ian Coutts is an award-winning author and editor. Most recently, he worked with Dr. Robert Ballard to produce
Titanic: The Last Great Images
. The book was published in Britain in the spring of 2008 and a North American edition followed in September. The total publication run was more than 75,000 copies, and the book - a tribute to the Titanic by the scientist who first found her - has been very well reviewed.
He has written or co-authored several previous books, including
Backyard Birds
with Robert Bateman, which won an award from the Science Writers of Canada and was nominated for the Silver Birch Award.
Until 2003, Ian was acquisitions editor for Madison Press Books, which produces large-run illustrated books for the international publishing community. Many of the books on which he worked were international best-sellers. He continues to work with Madison and other firms in the industry.
Ian's key talent is the ability to create, develop and refine ideas, especially relating to military and technical subjects, and shape them in a way that combines popular appeal with academic rigour.
He has also written for such magazines as Canadian Business, Toronto Life and Canadian Geographic, and co-wrote a comic strip that appeared in The Globe and Mail.
In 2004, the Editors' Association of Canada recognized Ian for his high level of professionalism and creativity as a book editor by selecting him as the winner of the
Tom Fairley Award
.
